What is the five senses game?
The Five Senses is an educational activity for kids to learn about taste, smell, vision, hearing, and touch. The lesson will introduce each of the five senses one at a time. Students will then be assessed through a multiple choice activity. *In addition to the typical 5 sensory systems (sight, sound, taste, feel, smell) we have 3 additional ‘hidden’ senses–vestibular, proprioception, and interoception. There are five main ways we can do this: through sight (with our eyes), touch (with our fingers), smell (with our nose), taste (with our tongue) and hearing (with our ears). In time, and with training, you can learn to make maximum use of all your senses — touch, hearing, smell, and any remaining vision — as well as improve your visual memory. Gradually, with practice in sensory exercises and successful new experiences, you will begin to trust your other senses and rebuild your confidence. Sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste are your super senses.
What are sensory games?
Sensory play is a type of play that activates and stimulates a child’s senses. Often, sensory play focuses on stimulating touch, sight, and hearing as those senses are most accessible. So sensory awareness is just literally games and activities that get kids seeing more, seeing better, seeing deeper, seeing wider, hearing, listening, discriminating – and then the senses of touch and smell – kids love doing smelly games … The types of play include physical, dramatic, sensory, nature, music and art, and age-appropriate play. Children need the various types of play in order to support and facilitate meaningful learning opportunities as they develop language, motor, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities. Game sense is an approach to modified sport that: engages children in minor and modified game strategies and concepts where there are opportunities to develop both skills and an understanding of the tactics of the game.
