What is the difference between BACP and UKCP? The BACP trains counsellors and psychotherapists and the UKCP trains psychotherapists. They are the two main and the largest registering bodies in the UK. Our national register Choosing a therapist who is UKCP-registered gives you reassurance about their training and qualifications. It means they have agreed to follow ethical codes and standards and to undertake ongoing training and development. CPCAB is an awarding organisation – also known as an awarding body or examination board which awards qualifications – whereas BACP is a professional membership body which represents the interests of counselling. How do I get UKCP accreditation?
The most usual route to UKCP membership is through training with one of our member organisations. Once you’ve completed your training, you’ll automatically be able to apply for UKCP membership. While you’re training, you may be able to join UKCP as a student or trainee member. The combination of personal development, theory, placement hours and supervision is exhausting in so many different ways. Pursue a career in Counselling and guidance after completing a Bachelor’s degree in any subject. After completing class 12th in any stream, and graduation in any subject you can go for a certificate course or training/ Diploma in Counselling/Mental Health/Career Counselling. Overseas psychologists from any country in the world can register with the HCPC in the UK and use the protected ‘practitioner psychologist’ titles such as clinical psychologist or counselling psychologist, thus qualifying them to practice in the UK.
