Self-motivation, time management, communication, problem solving, and relationship building— some common aspects of SEL—are the types of skills employers often look for. 7 Mindsets is a web-based program that teaches students the skills needed to master social and emotional learning (SEL) competencies. The 7 Mindsets are Everything Is Possible, Passion First, We Are Connected, 100% Accountable, Attitude of Gratitude, Live to Give, and The Time Is Now. The CASEL 5 addresses five broad and interrelated areas of competence and highlights examples for each: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The model that I present below contains six emotional skills: self-awareness, emotional expression, self-regulation, empathy, social skills, and self-motivation. Each domain contains twelve competencies: emotional self-awareness, emotional self-control, adaptability, achievement orientation, positive outlook, empathy, organisational awareness, influence, coaching and mentoring, conflict management, teamwork, and inspirational leadership.

Relationship-building, problem-solving, collaboration, and assertiveness—all commonly known as skills for success—are highly sought after in today’s workforce. Social and emotional learning (SEL) is a whole child teaching approach that advances education through school-family-community connections and partnerships. It helps establish learning environments that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful teaching pedagogy, and ongoing assessments.
Why SEL is important in the workplace?

Three Pillars: Culture, Adult Skills, Curriculum. A culture where social emotional learning can thrive is one that provides a safe and healthy place for children to learn and grow. Relationship skills, social awareness, and self-management are essential social and emotional learning (SEL) tools to add to our learners’ tool kit to help them navigate all their new experiences in life and in learning. One of the first steps in building emotional intelligence is developing the ability to effectively observe and describe emotions. This can be done through a variety of exercises and activities, such as journaling, role-playing, or simply discussing emotions with others. The four domains of Emotional Intelligence — self awareness, self management, social awareness, and relationship management — each can help a leader face any crisis with lower levels of stress, less emotional reactivity and fewer unintended consequences.
How is SEL used in the classroom?
