What is art as creation?
A work of art is created by an artist, in order then to develop an independent existence in the eye of the beholder over which the creator loses all control. Art gives us the ability to express ourselves. Through that expression, we communicate by drawing on our own unique emotions, thoughts and experiences. When you see and study another’s art, you’re seeing the world through their eyes. When you create, you’re letting the world see through yours. Art doesn’t just make you absorb information. Rather, it makes you think about current ideas and inspire you to make your own. This is why creativity is a form of intelligence – it is a special ability that unlocks the potentials of the human mind. Humans are the only species that make art. Where did this come from? One area of the human experience that seems not to have parallels out in nature is the arts. It is difficult to conceive of a pigeon Picasso or a baboon Botticelli. In the Oxford dictionary, art is defined as, “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination.” This is more than true when relating to anything that mankind has created in the history of the world.

They are often associated with the human mind and creativity. The philosopher Aristotle once wrote that Art not only imitates nature, but it also completes its deficiencies. This can be interpreted as art not only recreating the natural world but also creating new ways in which to see it in another light. In other words, art is the missing voice of what nature lacks to speak.
Is art a creation or imitation?
Art, like life, starts with imitation but what makes art is its originality. By imitating the nature, it is creative just like Mother Nature. Although every new state produced seems imitated, it includes the new and different in it. Art includes both dimensions but creation is more valuable. Art exists because it is a language; it creates a homogenized culture, and culture and language are embedded in our genome. Art can uplift, provoke, soothe, entertain and educate us and is an important part of our lives. At its most profound level, it takes us from the everyday to a place of introspection and contemplation, to see the bigger picture of the human condition. Art is a diverse range of human activity, and resulting product, that involves creative or imaginative talent expressive of technical proficiency, beauty, emotional power, or conceptual ideas. The seven major forms of art are painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, music, cinema, and theater. By letting you enjoy a sense of fulfillment, it transforms you into a more positive, well-rounded human being.
What is art as nature?
Making art from nature involves utilizing various elements of nature (such as leaves, sticks, stones, bones, water, etc) in a creative way to make a new art object. The resulting artwork makes a statement about both nature and humanity’s relationship to nature. Art brings people together physically — at galleries, museums, performance spaces — and culturally, through its capacity to tell a community’s shared story, to inspire reflection, and form connections that transcend differences. Artworks inspire creative and innovative thinking; the right brain takes what it sees and expands upon it. Staring into a picture of a forest, the right brain envisions walking through the forest, looking to the corners just beyond the frame to see animals and new vistas. By engaging works of art, we can experience a sense of comfort and peace, as well as feelings of unease and being challenged. Art invites us to an encounter, which is a gift—a spiritual gift that might bring us into a deeper relationship with God. The seven principles of art and design are balance, rhythm, pattern, emphasis, contrast, unity, and movement. The elements of art and design are line, shape/form, space, value, color, and texture. The elements of art and design are the tools of visual artists. Many theories have been suggested about the art’s purpose, the most accepted being that it was part of religious rituals, possibly to evoke hunting success.

The arts are also one of the greatest gifts God has given us, cheering the heart, stimulating the mind and enriching human life. Ultimately, as with all gifts, art is there to give glory to God, the greatest creator. God’s twin purposes for creation are to reveal God’s character and nature, and to provide for what God has made. Humanity’s use of creation must promote – not compromise – the ability of creation to reveal God and to provide for humans and other creatures on the earth now and in the future.
