What is a Christian therapist called?
Christian psychology usually involves therapy sessions with a Christian psychologist. These psychologists are also referred to as integrationists because they seek to integrate Christianity into psychology. Biblical Counseling is often considered to be a nontechnical variant of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. By definition, faith based counseling, also known as pastoral or Christian counseling, combines behavioral science, found in most counseling practices, with teachings found in scripture. It allows an individual to find healing through God rather than oneself or another person. So, what is the difference between Christian counseling and biblical counseling? Simply put, Christian counseling is based on Scripture as well as psychological principles while biblical counseling is based on Scripture alone.
Is it OK for Christians to see a therapist?
If you are religious and interested in seeing a therapist, know faith and therapy are not mutually exclusive. There are millions of people who are involved in religious communities and see a therapist, finding happiness in both spaces and without feeling they are compromising any belief. Spiritual therapy is a form of counseling that attempts to treat a person’s soul as well as mind and body by accessing individual belief systems and using that faith in a higher power to explore areas of conflict in life. CBT can appear to be the ideal psychotherapy for the Christian. It hits the trifecta of being (a) scientifically demonstrated, (b) anecdotally effective, and (c) consistent with biblical principles. One of the ways that God shows us that he cares for our mental health is by providing us with the things we need – a great therapist, access to medication, time with Him, a good support system, or all of the above. Loving God with our minds can mean utilizing some of these things he provides. The short answer is that you can tell your therapist anything – and they hope that you do. It’s a good idea to share as much as possible, because that’s the only way they can help you. Counsel- Again we see counseling as a God given gift from the Spirit. This has to do with right and wrong and proper judgment. It is an internal compass for you and your clients.
