What are the three importance of wellness?

Overall physical wellness encourages the balance of physical activity, nutrition and mental well-being to keep your body in top condition. Obtaining an optimal level of physical wellness allows you to nurture personal responsibility for your own health. As a quick overview, Wellness is maintained by paying attention to our daily lives on four levels: Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual Health. To accomplish this, there are five simple keys or exercises: Self-Love, Breathing, Positive Choices, Balance and Trust. Sleep, exercise, and nutrition are the three pillars that support physical wellness. Wellness is commonly viewed as having seven dimensions: mental, physical, social, financial, spiritual, environmental, and vocational. These dimensions are interdependent and influence each other. When one dimension of our well-being is out of balance, the other dimensions are affected.

What is the role of wellness?

“We view wellness as much more than just a state of physical health. It also encompasses emotional stability, clear thinking, the ability to love, create, embrace change, exercise intuition and experience a continuing sense of spirituality.” Individual wellness refers to the emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, environmental and interpersonal well-being of an individual (Myers & Sweeney 2004:234). NWI promotes Six Dimensions of Wellness: Emotional, Physical, Intellectual, Occupational, Spiritual, and Social. The WHO constitution states: Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. An important implication of this definition is that mental health is more than just the absence of mental disorders or disabilities. The five dimensions of self-care include physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, and emotional aspects. Here’s how to incorporate activities from each dimension. Each method of self-care fits into one of the seven pillars: mental, emotional, physical, environmental, spiritual, recreational, and social. A well-balanced self-care routine involves each of these, so avoid restricting yourself to just one or two pillars.
