Why are reflective questions important for students?
Reflective questions are often used in educational settings, because these questions help students think about what they just learned and how they learned that concept. These types of questions reflect students’ understanding and help the teacher gain insight into what was absorbed from the lesson. Reflecting helps you to develop your skills and review their effectiveness, rather than just carry on doing things as you have always done them. It is about questioning, in a positive way, what you do and why you do it and then deciding whether there is a better, or more efficient, way of doing it in the future. Student reflection is a critical piece of the service learning experience, as it ties the service and the academic coursework together through critical thinking and reasoning.
