Is art a good way to express yourself?
Art is a wonderful way of expressing ourselves. Writing is another good way of expressing ourselves as well. Those two mediums of self-expression is what I use personally to help express not only myself, but my emotions and my thoughts, especially during this pandemic. People want to express themselves, to let other people know who they are, what they think, what they are feeling. People sometimes prefer to express themselves artistically rather than just telling other people what they are feeling and thinking in a more straightforward and less symbolic way. In an ideal world, emotions create feelings that flow naturally. But oftentimes they get dammed up. Whatever you’re feeling these days, it can be a lot to carry. Expressing emotion through art is an incredible way to release those feelings before they get too deep and begin to create other problems. Art Opens Your Heart and Feeds Your Mind Looking at art provides an opportunity to exercise critical thinking, experience a renewed self-awareness, and potentially even a deeper connection to others and their experiences, as we share what we feel and try to interpret what we see. Artists create art that conveys to us how they think and feel about things. Artists use different lines, shapes, and colors to express their feelings. Artwork fosters the feeling of relaxation, creativity, and inspiration. Any form of creativity can reduce the stress hormone cortisol and encourage the good hormones endorphins and dopamine in our brains.
Is art really about self expression?
Art is a means of self-expression and can help a person convey emotions that are difficult to verbalize. Various forms of expressive arts can tap different sensory modalities, aiding processing of events and relaxing the mind and the body. Art is a way to express our emotions and feelings. It can be used to communicate ideas and thoughts; it can be used as a tool for self-expression, used as a form of therapy, or even as a means to find beauty in life. Art is a powerful means of communication and self expression. It has an incredible ability to unify a group of people. Whether it be music, visual art, performance, or any other form, art makes us feel deeply. Art is a means of communication, and is an important means of expression of any experience, or of any aspect of the human condition. Tolstoy defines art as an expression of a feeling or experience in such a way that the audience to whom the art is directed can share that feeling or experience. Art can communicate information, shape our everyday lives, make a social statement and be enjoyed for aesthetic beauty. Art in any form, whether while creating or observing, reduces the stress hormone called cortisol. It also releases the feel-good hormones called endorphins which help you combat stress and pain. By letting you enjoy a sense of fulfillment, it transforms you into a more positive, well-rounded human being.
Why is art good for self-expression?
Art gives us the ability to express ourselves in ways that nothing else can. Self-expression allows us to understand ourselves and process our emotions. Research conducted at the Georgetown Behavioral Health Institute confirms that self-expression in the arts positively affects mood, function, cognition, and behavior. These things tell us what is right and what is wrong, how fellow human beings are to be related, how to appreciate from different perspectives, how to be reflective and self-critical, and even what beauty is. Arts give us pure joy and let us express ourselves without being formal artists. Art has the power to move individuals to social action, manipulate and influence, entertain, and educate. Many are afraid to approach art, viewing it from afar as an elite subject and esoteric. Art binds. Culture generates social capital and strengthens a community’s character. Art brings people together physically — at galleries, museums, performance spaces — and culturally, through its capacity to tell a community’s shared story, to inspire reflection, and form connections that transcend differences. There are six functions that art fulfills. It is for delight, persuasion, self-expression, worship and ritual and commentary. It could inspire you to be more creative with your writing or help you to have more creative ideas in other areas. Painting and drawing also help to enhance fine motor skills, as well as improve hand-eye coordination. It is also good for developing problem-solving skills.
Why is art used to express feelings?

Value in art is essentially how light or dark something is on a scale of white to black (with white being the highest value and black being the lowest value). It is widely considered to be one of the most important variables to the success of a painting, even more so than your selection of color (hue).

Any form of art can help reduce stress hormones, while increasing endorphins and dopamine in our brain. Even though there are a great many aims art can have, six that are particularly significant and influential are religious and ceremonial, social commentary, storytelling, self-expression, beauty and emotion.
