Even though highly sensitive therapists have particular needs that must be addressed to avoid burnout, they also bring unique gifts to therapeutic sessions. Highly sensitive counselors “are well wired for this type of work,” Smith notes. “They’re going to process information more deeply. Research shows a generally high job satisfaction among the profession, but everyone can have bad days. Counseling is an emotionally taxing job and sometimes the clients’ problems can hit too close to home. With adequate self-care, however, counselors are happy (and happy to help). The second study provides initial evidence that therapists can improve when provided sufficient support, challenge, and consultation. Taken together, these studies suggest that therapists can improve over time. And, as with our clients, this improvement requires commitment and effort. Therapists don’t feel only love for their clients. Therapists love their clients in various ways, at various times. And yes, I’m sure there are some therapists out there who never love their clients. But, a lot more than we might think or recognise, love is around in the therapy relationship.
What problems do therapists face?

But all the same, we deal with anxiety, depression, and other issues. Some of the hardest things about working as a counselor include the often painful process of working through problems itself, the slow rate with which change and healing happen, the emotional toll the work takes on a counselor and factors like the abundance of paperwork and comparatively low rates of pay. Job satisfaction Therapists often have satisfaction in their careers because they may successfully help people improve their lives and overcome challenges. It may be satisfying to see someone transform into a healthier person due to your professional assistance. Therapy can help successful people recognize that their net worth isn’t tied to their self-worth. This can help them recognize that even if they fail, they’ll still be okay. Treatment can also teach healthy ways to cope with anxiety and offer strategies for calming the constant self-doubt. The most rewarding part of being a counsellor is knowing that you had a part in affecting the life of another human being. Giving hope when people feel hopeless. Inspiring others to be all that they are capable of being, so that they can go out into the world and pay it forward by helping others.
