How do you describe yourself in art?
Simply put, what is essential for defining yourself as an artist is your ability to articulate your genuine“inner voice” through art and tell an original story about your personal experiences, background, memories, or ideas and beliefs. Art, identity and everyday experience have an intrinsic relationship. The work of art not only allows the artist to identify himself with his work, but in so far as art is born out of and in everyday experience the work of art also reflects the community to which the artist belongs. Art can shed light on cultural influences from other places, historical events, cultural values, the persistence of certain traditions, and resistance and change to certain traditions. People use art to express their own individuality, but also to connect with others in the culture and express a shared identity. Visual and performing arts can lead to positive self-expression, and assist in building confidences. How do you describe art?
Art is generally understood as any activity or product done by people with a communicative or aesthetic purpose—something that expresses an idea, an emotion or, more generally, a world view. It is a component of culture, reflecting economic and social substrates in its design. Art has been defined as a vehicle for the expression or communication of emotions and ideas, a means for exploring and appreciating formal elements for their own sake, and as mimesis or representation. Art gives a feeling of joy and boosts a good mood. Artwork fosters the feeling of relaxation, creativity, and inspiration. Any form of creativity can reduce the stress hormone cortisol and encourage the good hormones endorphins and dopamine in our brains. The artwork makes available an emotion through which our thoughts, absorption, or even curiosity transform. In this way, Rothko’s paintings are more like tools that allow us to experience a level of self-reflection—or the transcendence that is so often described in relation to his work.
How do you describe an artistic person?
An artistic personality type uses their hands and mind to create new things. They appreciate beauty, unstructured activities and variety. They enjoy interesting and unusual people, sights, textures and sounds. These individuals prefer to work in unstructured situations and use their creativity and imagination. Art Opens Your Heart and Feeds Your Mind Looking at art provides an opportunity to exercise critical thinking, experience a renewed self-awareness, and potentially even a deeper connection to others and their experiences, as we share what we feel and try to interpret what we see. Art gives us the ability to express ourselves. Through that expression, we communicate by drawing on our own unique emotions, thoughts and experiences. When you see and study another’s art, you’re seeing the world through their eyes. When you create, you’re letting the world see through yours. All art can broaden knowledge, give enjoyment, and challenge our assumptions; but it can also help soothe, calm, enlighten, and uplift the mind and spirit. Even art that leaves us uncomfortable can still help us to think differently and give us new perspective. Art can provide a healthy outlet for feelings that clients need to get out. Art is an alternate way to communicate something that clients cannot always put into words. By witnessing the art, the therapist gives the client the experience of validation and acceptance of their feelings. It can be used to communicate ideas and thoughts; it can be used as a tool for self-expression, used as a form of therapy, or even as a means to find beauty in life. Art also captures a moment in time, historical events, social ideas and concepts, and political or social commentary.
How can you relate art to yourself?
ART ALLOWS US TO CONNECT WITH OUR INNER SELVES Art enables us to look within and to listen to ourselves, realize who we are, and what we care about. It connects us to our thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and our outer realities and experiences. Art helps you process your emotions and understand your surroundings. It allows you to see life from a different perspective and it makes you feel alive. Art has always been an important part of human society since the beginning of time. Art has been used as a tool for cultural exchange, education, and expression. Art is an immediate mood-booster, and it fosters feelings of relaxation, creativity, and inspiration. Many studies have shown that both creating and looking at art can support mental wellbeing. Any form of art can help reduce stress hormones, while increasing endorphins and dopamine in our brain. It’s a win-win! Art binds. Culture generates social capital and strengthens a community’s character. Art brings people together physically — at galleries, museums, performance spaces — and culturally, through its capacity to tell a community’s shared story, to inspire reflection, and form connections that transcend differences.
How does art define a person?
Art is an expression of our thoughts, emotions, intuitions, and desires, but it is even more personal than that: it’s about sharing the way we experience the world, which for many is an extension of personality. It is the communication of intimate concepts that cannot be faithfully portrayed by words alone. The definition of art has generally fallen into three categories: representation, expression, and form. Art as Representation or Mimesis. Plato first developed the idea of art as “mimesis,” which, in Greek, means copying or imitation. 1. What does art mean to you personally?
Art evokes emotions, whether they are happy or sad, disturbing or exciting. Art makes you feel, and art makes you think. Pieces of art can make you question not only the artist’s interpretation or message, but also your own feelings. Art is a testimony of the human condition. It encompasses all of our hardships, emotions, questions, decisions, perceptions. Love, hatred, life, death. Essentially the way in which we perceive our world, every aspect of humanity can be expressed through art. Art has the power to move individuals to social action, manipulate and influence, entertain, and educate. Many are afraid to approach art, viewing it from afar as an elite subject and esoteric. Even a sublime piece of artwork, which normally offers feelings of pain, terror, and danger, can be considered beautiful as long as the viewer finds the artwork to be pleasurable. Furthermore, beauty is that which evokes positive effects subjectively through the human senses of smell, touch, sight, taste, and sound. Even abstract paintings with the use of colors, symbolism, and brush strokes are distinguishable enough to make us feel something. Squiggly frantic lines can represent feelings of uneasiness, the color red can indicate an overwhelming sense of anger, or black can symbolize death and mystery among the viewers. Representational artwork aims to represent actual objects or subjects from reality. Subcategories under representational art include Realism, Impressionism, Idealism, and Stylization. All of these forms of representationalism represent actual subjects from reality.
Do you think art is a good way to express yourself?
Art is a wonderful way of expressing ourselves. Writing is another good way of expressing ourselves as well. Those two mediums of self-expression is what I use personally to help express not only myself, but my emotions and my thoughts, especially during this pandemic. Art can communicate information, shape our everyday lives, make a social statement and be enjoyed for aesthetic beauty. Drawing on great philosophical works, it argues that life practiced as an art form affords an experience of meaning, in the sense that it is engaging, creative, and participatory. It thus effects a fundamental renewal of experience. In representational theory, art is defined by its ability to represent reality. This does not mean that art must always imitate reality, but it must in some form (even through abstraction) depict reality. Thus, the foundational relationship between humans and art is one of perception, not emotion. Art is a creative activity that expresses imaginative or technical skill. It produces a product, an object. Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, performing subjects, and expressing the author’s thoughts. The product of art is called a work of art, for others to experience.
