At what age do most mental illnesses develop?
50% of mental illness begins by age 14, and 3/4 begin by age 24. Recent brain research indicates that birth to age three are the most important years in a child’s development. The Mental Health Act is a law that tells people with a mental health disorder what their rights are and how they can be treated.
Why does mental illness start in 20s?
While you still have a lot to learn, you probably feel like the development process is over. Mentally, however, as a young adult, you’re still not fully grown. Young adults, aged 18 to 29, are still experiencing cognitive development, and this is one of the reasons why mental illness can present at this time of life. Age regression occurs when you mentally retreat to an earlier age. In all ways, you believe you’re back at that point in your life, and you may exhibit childish behaviors, too. Some people choose to revert to a younger age. In this case, it can be a coping mechanism to help them relax and eliminate stress.
