What are 7 exams?

The 7 plus or 7+ exam is a highly competitive school entrance exam used by an increasing number of schools both in and outside of London for entry into Year 3. Mostly, the exam is held by fee-paying independent schools between January and November of Year 2, though the exact dates can vary according to schools. The 10+ examinations are the assessment used by various independent schools for entry into Year 6. As the 11+ entry becomes ever more competitive, some parents choose for children to sit an exam a year earlier at around 10 years old. There are only a few schools that offer the 10+ entry. The 13+ Common Entrance exam consists of a set of rigorous tests set by selective independent secondary schools. It usually focuses on content taught at KS3. The 13+ tests are part of the standard ISEB assessment, although individual schools can devise their own Common Entrance (CE) papers. The Grade 7 examinations results are categorized into 4 Divisions ranging from division 1 to 4. If a candidate scores marks in division 4, that candidate has failed. However, a Grade 7 exam is considered a no fail exam. Failure or pass is determined by number of places available in grade 8.
