Those two mediums of self-expression is what I use personally to help express not only myself, but my emotions and my thoughts, especially during this pandemic. People use gestures, sounds, and language to express themselves. Starting at birth, humans, as social beings, find different ways to express themselves, one of which is drawing. Many researchers have proven that people express their emotions and thoughts through drawing. Art is an immediate mood-booster, and it fosters feelings of relaxation, creativity, and inspiration. Many studies have shown that both creating and looking at art can support mental wellbeing. Any form of art can help reduce stress hormones, while increasing endorphins and dopamine in our brain. Art can shed light on cultural influences from other places, historical events, cultural values, the persistence of certain traditions, and resistance and change to certain traditions. People use art to express their own individuality, but also to connect with others in the culture and express a shared identity. When an artist creates their works, they’re putting at least a part of themselves into what they create. This can often indicate the artist’s overall personality, attitude on life, or their general mindset at the time. Often times, other characters will notice and comment on what they see of the artist in their works.
