Simply put, a situation arises, and we have thoughts about the facts of that situation; those thoughts trigger feelings, and based on those feelings we engage in behaviors which in turn impact the situation (either positively or negatively), and the cycle continues. The mind has three basic functions: thinking, feeling, and wanting. Egocentric tendencies function automatically and unconsciously. If we challenge our thoughts, we can sometimes break a negative cycle. Being able to identify whether our thoughts are unhelpful or helpful is very useful. Try to recognise and challenge your own negative thoughts and identify helpful alternatives. This in turn will help you change unhelpful feelings and behaviours.
