Is Pure O OCD treatable?
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that causes obsessions and compulsions. Pure obsessional (or “pure O”) is an unofficial type of OCD where compulsions mainly show up as thoughts instead of actions. Like all types of OCD, pure O can be treated with medications and therapy. Most people get the odd bizarre and intrusive thought but if you have OCD you just can’t let them go. They trick you, mess with you and are seriously convincing. Compulsions are anything that challenges the thoughts, rituals, things you must do in order to feel safe. The most effective treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Though there are multiple forms and variations on CBT, the ones that are most likely to help with OCD use a combination of cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness-based interventions. Examples of obsessive or compulsive behaviors include: Having unwanted thoughts, impulses, or images that occur over and over and which cause anxiety or distress. Having to think about or say something over and over (for example, counting, or repeating words over and over silently or out loud) Relationship OCD (sometimes called R-OCD) is a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder in which people experience intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors related to their relationship with their romantic partner. The condition can create repetitive thoughts that center on doubts or fears about the relationship. Thus, what ignites the symptoms of Pure-O is not the experience of intrusive thoughts but actually one’s reaction to them. The more one dislikes experiencing the intrusive thoughts and tries to repress, control, or fight the thoughts, the greater the frequency of intrusive thoughts one will experience.
Does Pure O OCD go away?
Whilst recovery can be difficult to achieve due to a lack of access to effective therapy, the fact is with the right support and treatment some people can and do completely recover from OCD, without relapse, recovery is possible. OCD attacks the very things that we value and care the most about. It attacks the core of our identities. That’s what makes it so compelling. People who do not live with OCD can have the very same thoughts, images, and urges, and yet they are mostly unphased by them. Unfortunately, OCD doesn’t just go away. There is no “cure” for the condition. Thoughts are intrusive by nature, and it’s not possible to eliminate them entirely. However, people with OCD can learn to acknowledge their obsessions and find relief without acting on their compulsions. Those with OCD become so overwhelmed with the fear they might act, they describe this feeling as an urge, and that it feels real.
How serious is pure OCD?
When pure OCD is untreated, it can take over a person’s ability to think about anything other than their intrusive thoughts and lead to isolation from others and a sense of hopelessness about one’s life. In a typical sample, women were 1.6 times more likely to experience OCD compared to men, with lifetime prevalence rates of 1.5% in women and 1.0% in men. There was also a trend toward younger adults’ being more likely to experience OCD in their lifetime than older adults. You might find yourself constantly questioning the state of your mind, which can cause you to be overly focused on feeling different than usual. This time frequently coincides with increasing school and performance pressures, in addition to biologic changes of brain and body that accompany puberty. The most common horrific thought is that of impulsively harming someone. Sufferers may be afraid that they will stab or shoot someone, commit suicide, or molest a child. They may fear they are gay, racist, homophobic, or sociopathic; that they secretly wish someone would die; or that they are offending God.
Can I control my own OCD?

Can you live a normal life with pure OCD?
If you have OCD, you can undoubtedly live a normal and productive life. Like any chronic illness, managing your OCD requires a focus on day-to-day coping rather than on an ultimate cure. Experts aren’t sure of the exact cause of OCD. Genetics, brain abnormalities, and the environment are thought to play a role. It often starts in the teens or early adulthood. But, it can also start in childhood. To clear things up, God does understand OCD and empathizes, helps, and comforts those with this disorder and other forms of mental illness. God would never punish someone with OCD, but unfortunately, many people born with this condition believe this to be the case. When you have OCD, you may experience false memories that feel like real experiences. This may lead you to doubt your recollection of important events or your memory performance in general. This lack of confidence, in turn, may lead you to more false memories. OCD is characterized as childhood-onset if symptoms present before puberty, whereas adult OCD starts during or after puberty.
