Headspace is our overall winner because whether you’re a meditation newbie or a seasoned pro looking for some structure, the app is jam-packed with meditations, sleep and nature sounds, calming music, guided self-help courses, and more. Anyone currently out of work or furloughed can register for the free Headspace Plus subscription here, which will give free access to all 1200+ hours of meditation and mindfulness content, including sleep and mindful movement exercises. Headspace offers a great array of features, from quality meditations to daily videos, as well as sleep- and exercise-specific content. The app is well-rounded, and while it could stretch itself too thin for certain users or for specific meditation techniques, the content meets a level of polish and quality. Is the Calm app worth it? While the free version is limited, the paid version is definitely worth it for the wide array of meditations and courses available. It’s also fun to have celebrity features on the app, like a bedtime story narrated by Idris Elba and an Ariana Grande Sleep Remix, which are unique to Calm. While Headspace has advanced courses, none of the meditations are over 30 minutes. Experienced practitioners may be better off with other meditation apps. Unfortunately, Headspace doesn’t offer any free content, but a free trial is offered with a subscription.
